Back to You: The Life and Music of Lucille Starr

Gold records, fame, fortune, tragedy: A Canadian sweetheart comes home.

The Firehall Arts Centre brings the memories and music of Coquitlam's internationally famous, Lucille Starr to the stage in this 2009-2010 season opening presentation of Back to You – the Life and Music of Lucille Starr. Written by Tracey Power and produced by Musical Theatreworks, Back to You runs at the Firehall from September 30 – October 10. Beverley Elliott stars as Lucille in concert, Alison Macdonald as the young Lucille and Jeff Gladstone as Lucille's husband, Bob Regan, the other part of the famed Canadian Sweetheart's duo.

Back to You begins in 1981 when Lucille Starr comes home to Coquitlam, BC to give her first solo concert in 25 years. It's her comeback tour, in more ways than one and her nerves have peaked. Coming home has stirred up a lifetime of memories – from the duo's rise in the country-music charts, her legendary solo career and international acclaim, to the loss of her voice and lengthy recovery. Now here she is, the first night of her comeback tour, a tour that ultimately brings her back to her music, back to herself and back to you.

Coquitlam, BC born Lucille Starr thrilled the world with her unique voice, vibrant personality and dynamic stage presence. At a time when the Beatles dominated the world stage, this Franco-Manitoban/ British Columbian singer, songwriter, took the world by storm with her hauntingly beautiful ballad of lost love, the 1964 hit single, The French Song (Quand Le Soleil Dit Bonjour Aux Montagnes. Her first major hit, The French Song, led to her being the first Canadian female singer to earn a gold record, followed by hits such as Crazy Arms and Yours led to her induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.

Back to You is written by well known performer and writer, Tracey Power, whose recent works have included the adaptation of The Jungle Book and Living Shadows – A Story of Mary Pickford. Musical Theatreworks co-Artistic Director, Barbara Tomasic will direct the play with musical direction by country/bluegrass artist, Steve Charles. Set and lighting is by April Viczko, costumes are by Barbara Claydon, and stage management by Connie Hosie.
