Haunted hotels

Spanish Walk , Banff Springs Hotel
Spanish Walk , Banff Springs Hotel

Are you brave enough to spend the night in one of these spooky spots?

Murder, forbidden love, tragedy and mysterious deaths... sounds like something we'd look for on the back cover of a novel, not in the features of a hotel. However, ghost sightings and other paranormal happenings are more than just local legends -- they're also good for business. Thrill-seekers and skeptics alike seek out haunted locations to see if the rumours are true (and even hope to be visited by a ghost).

Would you dare to spend the night in one of these haunted places?

Fort Garry Hotel, Winnipeg, Manitoba

This grand hotel, a national historic site marking the city's skyline, was originally built to offer luxurious accommodations for well-to-do railway passengers. You won't see it on the hotel's website, but the second floor is reputed to be haunted. Guests have reported waking up to find ghostly figures at the foot of the bed -- sometimes a man or sometimes a woman dressed in a period ball gown. The figure disappears, leaving guests wondering if it was just a trick of the light or a dream.

And then there's room 202 -- there isn't any proof, but maids have supposedly reported blood seeping through the walls.

Banff Springs Hotel, Banff, Alberta

Nestled in the Canadian Rockies, this hotel is modeled after a Scottish baronial castle -- and legend has it that it's the site of some strange events. The grand staircase, reportedly now blocked off, was once the site of a wedding disaster. The stories vary and there aren't any official records, but a bride supposedly fell to her death on those stairs. Some say she tripped on her veil, others say she panicked after her sweeping gown caught fire from one of the candles. It is rumoured that her spirit still wanders the halls of the hotel in her bridal finery.

And then there's Sam, the helpful bellman who appears from time to time to help out the guests.

Don't forget the old Albion Hotel in Bayfield Ontario. Room number four has a ghost that visits occasionally. There are 5 or 6 rooms that are over the cozy, wooden floor restaurant and pub. It's a great place !!

The Sundre Motor Inn is haunted by several pesky poltergiests. A stinky old man and a little girl, the lady in white, just to name a few. They all have one thing in common the cant stand guests. If the can disrupt your stay then they are happy.I think they are a farm family from the old homestead that do not understand all the people or modern conveniances.Hot water seems to be a pet peeve with stinky as the lady in white does not like open doors. It is not as famouse as Banff Springs BUT get Sue in the kitchen talking and she will tell you more then enough. If you dont scare easy its a great place to stay.
