Finally, the Theatre District gets its own dose of the burger & fries line-up from the notorious Shake Shack roadside stand. These little burger stands are making their way around NYC like a peculiar new weed, and this particular shop is exactly like any of the other Shake Shacks in the city. Except this one has a few new flavored ‘concretes’, and, of course, the smashing Theatre District location as a backdrop. Doling out 100% natural burgers will surely keep the preachy vegans at bay, but for the rest of us there’s a healthy roster of goods to behold: the classic ShackBurger is the cash cow, the regular cheeseburger is forgettable, and the ‘Shroom burger is a messy deep-fried portobello dream. Broker the deal with — a shot in the dark, of course — fries. Naturally, the complete hot-dog lineup is in full force, with both beef and chicken varieties, plus the “pooch-ini” dog biscuit for Lassie.

While the Shack beer and wine offerings are yet to be available, there are these new ‘concretes’ to deal with. Concretes and shakes are made with frozen custard and come in curious pop-glo flavors. First, there’s the “Great White Way” with vanilla custard marshmallow sauce and Crispy Crunchies, “Pretzel! The Concrete” with chocolate custard, peanut butter sauce, chocolate-covered pretzels and marshmallow sauce, and “Jelly’s Last Doughnut” with vanilla custard, Doughnut Plant doughnuts, strawberry preserves and cinnamon sugar.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em. It will be these new concretes things that will separate this location from the upcoming Upper East Side outpost and its new Miami brethren. It’s good enough to risk salmonella, recall be damned. Try this burger and you’ll be back for another one — in a jiffy.
